Good Morning Sistahs!
It's hard to believe August is here, and it's time to get ready for school to start. Seesh...is it just me, or does summer vacation seem abbreviated these days? *giggle For today's project I decided to do something a little different, I started an Art Journal. I decided to take a 23 week challenge and create my very own art journal. Our first week's challenge was called "Spread Your Wings." It was supposed to be a two page spread that had something to do with wings. I decided to do something I'd been wanting to try for a while, and Kitchen Sink Stamps seemed perfect for the task.
I started off with a quote from a book that was given to me by a dear friend.
"I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Here's the double page spread together:
Here's the first page:
Here's the second page:
I began by stamping Step 1 of all the butterflies from 3 Step Butterflies in Memento Grape Jelly.(I actually stamped them off before I stamped them on my journal pages.) For the large dark butterfly above the quote I used the Grape Jelly without stamping it off. Once I finished stampin' and writin', I tore lavender tissue paper in to small pieces and glued them down using Helmar's Acid Free Glue. Once the pieces were glued down, I went over them again to create a seal. The glue dries clear and gives the piece a nice finish.
To create my journal I purchased a pad of watercolor paper 12" x 9", cut the sheets in half then cut the back panel in half too to create the front and back of the art journal. I now have 24 pieces of watercolor paper and a nice sturdy cover for about $5.00. I'm going to use my bind-it-all to put it together once I'm done.
It was pretty intimidating doing a double page spread for my first try, but once I got started I couldn't stop myself. I'm definitely looking forward to see what the next few months bring.
Now it's time to check out what the rest of the crew has cooked up for you:
